Zahra shawl

Welcome back and here is the pattern of the Zahra shawl.

Measurements after blocking, approx ; 200 cm / 80” wide and 90 cm/36”  long
Materials;
Scheepjes;
Invicta Colour (959) 2 skeins
Invicta Extra (1421) Red, 1 skein
Invicta Extra (1428) Blue, 1 skein
Crochethook ; 4 mm / G US
Gauge; 19 tr. – 10 rows = 4” – 4”
Stitches; I used UK terms for this pattern, but you can confert it to US terms.


Chart 1.


Chain 203 with Invicta Colour (959). Then follow chart 2 or;
Row 1; tc3 in 7th ch from hook, *skip 3ch, tc3 in next ch*, repeat from * to * across, turn
Row 2; ss to space between 2 groups of 3tc, ch3, tc2 on same space, *skip 3tc, tc3 on next space*, repeat from * to * across, tc2 on last space, turn
Row 3; ch3, skip 1tc, * tc3 on space, skip 3tc*, repeat from * to * across, tc3 on last space, turn
Repeat row 2 -3 until you have 3 chains left and one group of 3tc. Break thread.

 Chart 2.

Return to the start of your shawl. Cast on color 1428.
ch2 (= first dc), dc on each stitch (= 200 dc.)
Next, ch2 (= first dc), dc on each dc, but dc2 on every sixth dc (31 times, = 231 dc) Then crochet row 1 – 6 of Chart 3. OR;

Row 1; ch3, tc on each dc, turn
Row 2; ch4, skip 2tc, * tcc in next tc, ch2, skip next 2tc*, repeat from * to * across to turning ch, tcc in 3rd ch of turning ch, turn
Row 3; ch3, *tc2 in next ch2-space, tc in next tcc*, repeat from * to * across to turning ch, tc in ch1-space of turning ch, tc in 3rd ch of turning ch, turn
Row 4; ch2, skip first dc, dc1 in next tc, * ch1, skip next 3 tc, [dtc1, ch4, dtc1] in next tc, ch1, skip next 3 tc, dc in each of next 4 tc*, repeat from * to * 19 more times, ch1, skip next 3 tc, [dtc1, ch4, dtc1] in next tc, ch1, skip next 3 tc, dc in each of next 2 tc, turn
Row 5; ch5, skip first dc, ttc in next sc, *ch1, [dtc1, ch1] 6 times in next ch4-space, skip next ch1-space, ttc in each of next dc*, repeat from * to * 19 more times, ch1, [dtc1, ch1] 6 times in next ch4-space, skip next ch1-space, ttc in each of next dc, turn
Row 6; ch3, skip first ttc, tc in next ttc, *skip next ch1-space, [tc1, P] in each of next 4 ch1-spaces, tc in next ch1-space, skip next ch1-space, tc in each next 4 ttc*, repeat from * to * 19  more times, skip next ch1-space, [tc1, P] in each of next 4 ch1-spaces, tc in next ch1-space, skip next ch1-space, tc in each next 2 ttc.
Break of thread.

 Chart 3.

Take color 1421 and cast on as shown in Chart 1. You work in the sides of the rows.Starting with 3dc in the first row. Then crochet in each row 2dc, but in every third row 3dc  (See Chart 4. blue signs) Along the blue part you crochet in row 1; 3dc, row2; 2dc, row 3; 3dc, row 4; 1dc, row 5; 4dc, row 6; 3dc (See Chart 5, blue signs) ( = 248 dc. total)

Row 2; 3ch, tc on each dc, tc3 on last dc, turn Row 3; ch2 (counts as first dc), dc on each tc, turn

Repeat row 2 – 3 four more timesLast row; ch1, dc1 on first dc, * Picot, dc on next 5 dc *, repeat from * to * across until last 3 stitches and end the row with a picot, dc2, picot, dc1.

Weave in your ends. Soak shawl for 20 minutes in cool water. Roll in towel to get rid of excess moisture. Pin out on blocking board. Leave to dry and unpin, only when dry.

Organizing crochet projects

Voor / Before

Ben ik de enige die aan meerdere projecten tegelijkertijd werkt? Ik heb ze een tijdje terug geteld en de meeste projecten of beter gezegd onafgewerkte projecten waren 29. Zo nu en dan werken al die projecten op mijn zenuwen en ik probeer er dan een paar te voltooien. Meestal krijg ik er twee of drie af en heb dan weer zin in iets nieuws. Ik heb geprobeerd een oplossing te verzinnen om m'n projecten netjes weg te bergen, maar wel zo, dat het makkelijk is om zo nu een dan een projectje af te maken. 

Am I the only one who works multiple projects at the same time? I counted them a while back and the most projects or better said unfinished projects where 29. Ones a while those projects get on my nerves and I'll try to finish a few. Mostly I get two or thee out of the way and then I feel like starting something new. I tried to come up with a solution to store my projects neatly away, but so that it is easy to finish a small project every now and then.

Dit is een van die pogingen. Ik heb een kinder roomdivider gekocht. Ik vond het een leuk klusje om de kast in elkaar te zetten, maar ik heb wel 4 pootjes en 8 schroeven over gehouden. Hopelijk valt het kastje niet uit elkaar :) 

Het kastje heeft negen vakken, dus er kunnen 9 projecten in, in kleine mandjes. Het ziet er beter uit zo, vind ik.

This is one of those attempts. I bought a childrens roomdivider. I liked putting the cabinet together, but I have four legs and eight screws held over. I hope the cabinet doesn't fall apart :)

It has nine boxes, so it can hold 9 projects in little baskets. It does look better, I think.

Na / After

Ik moet een mandje leeg maken, voordat ik een nieuw project kan starten. We zullen zien of dit gaat werken. Wat denk jij? Als je ook werkt aan verschillende projecten tegelijk, hoe berg jij ze op?

I have to empty a basket before I can start a new project. Let's see if this is going to work. What do you think? If you also work on several different projects, how do you store them ?

Reveal of the Zahra shawl

En dit is het resultaat geworden. Een fijne grote omslagdoek. Heerlijk zacht met warme kleuren, strepen en een beetje kant. En ik vind het leuk om m'n shawls een naam te geven en ze heeft de mooie naam van Zahra gekregen.

And here is the result. A fine large shawl. Lovely soft, warm colors, stripes and a little lace. And I love to name my shawls and she got the beautiful name of Zahra.

Ik hoop dat jullie deze shawl ook mooi vinden en kom vooral ook volgende week terug, want dat zal het patroon hier staan.

Tiny piece of the colorful wrap

Hier zijn dan een paar detail foto’s van de omslagdoek. Het word een fijn patroon. De  garens Invicta Colour en Invicta Extra van Scheepjes haken heerlijk en ben blij met het zijwaartse effect en de verloop van de kleuren. 

Volgende week laat ik de complete shawl zien.

Here are some detailed pictures of the shawl. It will be a lovely pattern. The yarns Invicta colour and Invicta extra of Scheepjes crochet delicious and I am happy with the sideway effects and the gradient of the colors.

Havendagen in Coevorden / Harbordays at Coevorden

 Dit weekend is het haven dagen in Coevorden. Er liggen dan allerlei prachtige boten in de haven van Coevorden. Verder is er ook van alles te beleven. Zo is er kermis, rommelmarkt en braderie.

This weekend are the harbor days in Coevorden. There are lots of beautiful boats in the harbor of Coevorden. Furthermore, there is also plenty to do and see. There is fair, flea market and street fair.

Museum boot / Museum ship

Deze paraplu stand heb ik op de rommelmarkt gekocht. Waarschijnlijk ga ik hem wit spuiten en ik twijfel of ik hem zo ter decoratie neer zet in mijn woonkamer of dat ik er misschien plantjes in ga zetten.

I've bought this umbrella stand at the flea market. I think I'm going to spray it white and place it as decoration in my living room or maybe I'm going to put plants in it.

Ook waren er allerlei kraampjes met ambachtslieden. Bij een daarvan heb ik deze spintol gekocht. Ik heb nog nooit gespind, maar het lijkt me een leuke techniek om te gaan leren en dan van het zelf gesponnen garen een mooie shawl te haken of breien.

There were all sorts of booths with craftsmen. In one of them I bought this spindle. I've never spun, but it seems like a fun technique to learn, and then crochet or knit a shawl with the self-spun yarn.

Colorful wrap

Een nieuw project en gratis patroon. Het word een omslagdoek en ik ga hiervoor Invicta Colour en Invicta Extra van Scheepjes gebruiken. De invicta colour, omdat ik de kleuren geweldig vindt en ze lopen prachtig in elkaar over. Ik werk graag met dit garen en het is echt niet alleen leuk voor sokken. Normaal haak ik m'n driehoek omslagdoeken van boven naar beneden of vanaf de punt omhoog, maar deze keer wil ik een shawl maken waarbij de strepen verticaal over de shawl wandelen. Dus ik begin aan de zijkant. Volgende week laat ik glimpje zien hoe dat er waarschijnlijk uit komt te zien.

A new project and free pattern. It will be a shawl and I'm going to use Invicta Colour and Invicta Extra from Scheepjes. The Invicta Colour, because I find the colors amazing and they run into each other beautifully. I love working with this yarn and it really is not just fun for socks. Normally I crochet my triangle shawls from the top down or from the point upwards, but this time I want to make a shawl with the stripes vertical on the shawl. So I'll start on a side. Next week, I'll shown a glimpse how that probably will look like.
